It is hard not to appreciate the hard work and craftsmanship that goes into a nice hand made leather jacket. Here are a few good examples of early native split moose hide jackets. The hide of the moose is to thick on its own to be used in leather garments so it needs to be split into two separate sheets. This process has been used for hundreds of years by the First Nations People. The white jacket on the left probably dates from the 20's and is more a mash up of early western and native fashions and the beaded jacket on the right is a traditional style garment with amazing tie up closures.
